Four Things Not to Do When Traveling by Plane

Example of bad airplane etiquetteChoosing to travel by plane means you have decided to cover the greatest distance by the fastest means possible. Flying economy class is usually cheaper than traveling by train or car, and you will be traveling with a couple of hundred people if you are on a major airline. A certain level of plane etiquette is what makes a good passenger.

1. The Perils of Alcohol

Alcohol is for sale to those of age on airplanes. On those long, boring flights it is tempting to overindulge and have too many drinks. This is a bad idea. Behaving poorly on a plane can get you into trouble just like anywhere else. The flight crew is less tolerant of bad behavior than you might expect. They have a large crowd to control and look after and do not have time to entertain drunken passengers. You can find yourself arrested when the plane lands if you go too far. It should also be noted that if an emergency should occur, being drunk reduces your chances of survival.

2. Off Means Off

Using electronics as instructed by the flight attendants is a good idea. Turn off smartphones, or put them in airplane mode, and leave them off until they say it is okay. There are a number of electronic devices that you can use on a plane. Content yourself with those and avoid annoying the other passengers, not to mention running the risk of having a flight attendant take your device from you.

3. Is There a “Kick Me” Sign on My Seat?

Kids playing on an airplaneFlying in cramped airline seats with little legroom is an unpleasant experience to begin with, having somebody kick the back of your chair the entire flight is intolerable. For adults, it is probably just a nervous habit and they stop once they realize they are doing it. Children on the plane are going to get bored and sometimes they will amuse themselves by mindlessly kicking the chairs in front of them. The adults they are traveling with hopefully will make them stop.

4. Being Loud and Proud

Constantly being loud in a public place is a sure sign of a self-absorbed mindset. Listening to somebody talk loudly for an entire flight is a real nuisance. Tired and uncomfortable people may confront people who are being too loud. Some people try to sleep on airplanes, imagine yourself trying to get a little sleep while some loud person goes on and on about something trivial.
